What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

 Underneath my sewing machine, I keep a basket of triangle cut offs and bits. While I was cleaning the floor of my sewing room, I needed to handle a bit of a mess they created. They play while I am not looking, and walk about the room at night.  Corralling them was easy, but not playing with them was impossible. Mostly they are smaller than a 2 1/2 inch hst. Some are very tiny.

 Last year I made tiny wonky stars along with the color for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I had no idea what I was going to do with them. I just knew they were cute and fun. And, when I made the roofs for tiny houses, I had 2 little triangles left from trimming that needed a purpose. I made 60 0f them, but that isn't enough for anything.

I couldn't wait to dig into red for the rainbow scrap challenge in September. I knew I had no shortage of red scraps - they are everywhere. Next to blue, I have more red scraps than any other color. Probably because, there are so many reds. Many of my scraps are gifted to me, and, it is a well used color among quilters. I get a lot of  small scraps in red.

I made the tiny houses from 2 inch strip bin. I look for the shortest strip and cut it 2 1/2 inches and 3 1/2 inches ...

Last week, I stopped getting comments in my email...again. It took me three days to figure it out and change my settings again. I was using the new blogger. Was anyone else having that problem?

I have collected little bits of triangles, mostly, for the shoofly leader/ ender from last year. The size I am making uses 1 1/2 inch hsts. I am getting very close to finishing all the blocks I have kitted for that quilt, so, I can, with great abandon, use these little bits in a few of my rainbow projects.... or get rid of ...

I lead a workshop Saturday for making donation quilts for my quilt guild. I love how everybody has a different vision for what they are making. And, everyone of them is wonderful. 

I like that Cindy's back ground was black and white prints.

Julie was using 30s prints, and, chose lavendar to sash her blocks - nice

Kathy was using a great combo of brown and black and grays. It was elegant

I have fun tiny houses

I finished 4 tiny wonky stars in green for the rainbow scrap challenge this month. The top left square is a study in a senior moment. As I am webbing the block together in 9 patch style, I get to the bottom right, and, I can't find the last 2 inch white square I need. I look around, knowing I cut 8 squares before I started. where did it go? I cut another one. It wasn't until I pressed the block, that I realized I had used it in the center instead of a green square. LOL

Oh my, I see in the picture, one of my shoofly has a HST turned the wrong way. sigh... I didn't see it before blogging about it.
In an effort to tidy around my sewing machine, I made a few random blocks. I need to attach a binding and if I don't clean everything will end up in a jumbled mess on the floor. haha
These shoofly blocks are made with the gifted hsts from the orphan adoption at Oh scrap.

I found several blue scrap pieces small enough for the houses and the wonky stars. Note to self, If I start with houses, I will automatically have little triangles for the stars. Rumor has it that Kathy from Sane, crazy, crumby quilts is working on her top of tiny houses. She was the inspiration for these cute blocks. I can't wait to see it.

I try to sew something everyday that is not on a list. Although, the same things get chosen, so, in a way, there is "that" list. I have projects that I really want to see progress, even if slowly. But, I have some "other" projects without any plan for the finish. Blossom time ( Bonnie Hunter) is one of them. I cut a few scraps and then sew them. Then, I cut a few more and sew them. In this weird time, aimless has it's appeal.

This week I worked on the rainbow irish chain blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge. I have been able to stay current with this quilt.

My friend Judy gave me this little pint size bag of triangle cut offs from a project she was making. I saw orange in there, so I dumped the bag. Orange is the color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge, and I have a few blocks that need orange. I was specifically looking for pieces for a small wonky star block. Well that started me down a rabbit hole, again. Judy has the best scraps.

I used an accuquilt die to cut drunkards path for the row by row quilt. I thought it would be easier to use the whole die in both green and white rather than cut individual pieces for the parts. The pattern calls for another row of green later, so, I can use the reverse with the leftovers from cutting this way.
